About Us

Established in the early 1970’s as the sales and letting entity for A&B Construction, Original Homes has been known for delivering quality homes to families and individuals from the Johannesburg, Gauteng area stretching as far as Hartbeespoort Dam in the North West Province where it was involved in developments such as Caribbean Beach Club, Mount Kos, Montego Bay and Eagles Landing. Amongst the numerous individual homes built in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg, Original Homes also developed cluster and sectional title complexes such as the sought after Marakesh, Riverclub Estate, Bryanston Glades, Morningside Palms, Monte Classique, Flint Farm, Blandford Ridge Estate, Cloudsbank and Riverlodge. Original Homes has been a pioneer in the development of cluster and townhouse complexes, individually designed homes and land for re-development.

The Original Property Group  was founded in 1968 as A & B Construction and has been active in commercial, residential, industrial, and leisure property leasing and development.  Group companies had included Original Property Developments, A & B Construction, Original Homes Estates, & Redhart Investments.  Having expertise in all aspects of property development, including acquisition & servicing, finance, building, sales, and rentals. Developments and rentals ranged from single units to large residential and office complexes, either free hold or sectional title.

Original Homes has seen the advent of various themes, styles, and trends over the 40 plus years of marketing and developing.  Among these styles were the expansive, ranch-style homes, and  'Star' exhibitions of the seventies and eighties, the almost total prevalence of cluster type developments and 'gash' townhouses in the nineties, and the move to larger stands or lifestyle estate of the last couple of years.

The social and economic circumstances of the times are reflected by these dynamics as lifestyle expectations and needs evolve. Today in South Africa greater security and lower maintenance of the cluster/townhouse developments and secured neighbourhoods is in high demand. Also the green eco-friendly and energy efficient homes are desired.  In terms of styles, while some may remain enduring (thatch, facebrick), others can be seen more as trends that come and go: thus the late eighties and early nineties saw the flat, concrete roofed 'mediterranean' style, typified by Marrakesh, Bryanston Glades, Morningside Palms, and Riverclub Estate. Subsequently 'Tuscan' was in vogue, as in Blandford Ridge Estate and Monte Classique in Lonehill and Bryanston respectively. Flint Farm in Riverclub was then a pleasant break from the overdone 'Tuscan' style, and reverted to a more classical high-pitched roof, English farmhouse style.

Caribbean Beach Club at Hartbeespoortdam was developed in the Nineties. Situated on 42 ha on the Northern shore of the dam, this has been an ambitious and successful project, encompassing 6 phases of residential units, totalling 189 freehold stands and 161 waterfront apartments. Recreation facilities included the St James Sporting and Marina Club, boasting private harbour with floating jetties, slipways, boat launching and fully secured boat park and lockers. The impressive and comfortable clubhouse is a welcoming and inviting environment in which to begin, spend, or end the day; its facilities included a restaurant, golfer's halfway house/snack bar, view deck overlooking the harbour and 9th green, games room, change room, and administration office. The Sandy Lane Golf course was complemented by 2 tennis courts, squash court, volleyball court, and swimming pools.

Previous Leisure resorts developed at Hartbeesportdam include Montego Bay and Mount Kos which both are multi-unit apartment developments with comprehensive facilities enjoying high investment and resale values. Original Homes was also involved in construction of the prestigious Eagles Landing development.

The Original Property Group has been a consistent performer in the arena of commercial/industrial development and retained superbly situated projects to lease. Clients have included Pick'n'Pay, Campbell and Thistleton, General Electric, Plessey/Altech, and Sandton Council.
